Time: Is Running Out: React Fast

“The time for such argument is passed... scorching irony, not convincing argument, is needed... For it is not light that is needed, but fire; … The feeling of the nation must be quickened;”

By Frederick Douglass, The Meaning of July Fourth of the Negro

Throughout our history, there have been several tragedies. Slavery was one of the famous tragedies, especially in America, which had a huge grievous impact on the African Americans. There were many boycotts, speeches, protests and groups that tried to lead the country to their goal of abolishing slavery. They were able to accomplish this task or goal by reacting rather than watching or delaying. The need for explaining, that slavery was unethical, was disappeared because “The time … is passed” or “ran out of time” with lot of patience and hope on white people for change. So, abolitionists like Frederick Douglass were born to terminate slavery in America. The quote above is from one of his famous speeches which is meant to encourage the white to stand against slavery so that “the feeling of the nation” will be “quickened”. The lesson to be learnt here is that as humans we need to react as soon as possible when we see something is going in the wrong direction. As humans it’s about time we, never to be a second too late, raise our voices for the good or for the harmony of a country. As humans we also need to either acknowledge the gross injustice and cruelty or we need to face the concept of “it’s too late”Finally, as humans we need to “react fast” as “time is running out” soon.
