Mis: Understandings: in Time

“She took it, Macon. After all that, she took the gold.” (Morrison 172). 

Have you ever misunderstood someone? Well, misunderstanding someone is a big deal because the feeling of guilty is pretty hard to carry after understanding your misunderstanding. And, there have been many incidents in the past, due to misunderstandings, that have had huge impact. For example, the Vietnam War was a war between Americans and Vietnamese people in which the Vietnamese people were misunderstood for being communists, but they were really nationalists. 

Another example of misunderstanding takes place in the book of Song of Solomon, when Macon Dead misunderstands his sister, Pilate, for taking the gold in the cave. He makes this decision only based upon the idea that she intervened when he was taking the gold. This had a huge impact upon the lives and the relationship between Macon Dead II and Pilate. In depth over time, Pilate had to live on her own and was always excluded from the society because of her absence of navel. On the other hand, Macon believed that his thoughts about Pilate were right, and grew up hating her. Along with that in in his mind, I think that after the incident in the cave, Macon became a person who is more interested in money and discriminator himself when he was mad at Milkman for involving “that Southside nigger” in the robbery. 

In conclusion, misunderstandings are common but, there are many ways in which they can be avoided. But the important lesson is that we should THINK before we ACT.
